Rosie is probably a Catahoula mix. She is about a year old. She was adopted from us as a tiny baby and was returned. Here is what the people who had her have to say about her: Housebroken (used to a fenced in back yard); Crate trained although won't always go in willingly (if you throw a treat she will). Knows sit, lay down, shake (will shake with either paw if you say "other one"). Takes treats very nicely usually and trained not to take it until you say "ok". Doesn't woof down her food, kind of a grazer. Likes to play with toys very much and loves chewies/deer anglers/nylabones, etc. Gives very nice kisses but not a cuddler. Good in the car. Good at the vet's office. Here was the reasons she was returned: She is very high energy. She is a digger. She is available for adoption here at Patriots.

You may remember this guy - it is Manny. He was out to foster for about three months last year and then found what we believed to be a home that would give him the time and space he needed to come the rest of the way out of his shell. He was doing well with the stability of his foster home and a regular routine. Unfortunately he got adopted in November and rather than wait for him to adjust (which everyone knew would not be quick) they decided to drug him starting the first of December. The drugging did nothing but amplify him being afraid of everything and then he went back to having accidents inside when he was drugged. He got more fearful of things and appeared to be drugged enough to more or less be in a zombie state. His condition when he came back in was very upsetting for everyone. We immediately consulted with the vet and got him off the drugs. It took a little while for him to get past the shakes, inability to control his bodily functions, to stand without wobbling and then through all of the mess of everything making him sick at his stomach as he was working the drugs out of his system. He has lost quite a bit of weight but we are giving him plenty to eat to make up for it. He is now doing better and we believe he is very thankful to be back at the shelter. He is still very afraid of strangers - men more so than women - he loves to go on walks as long as you work him through the stages of everything being strange - once he learns the route he does great. He gets along great with other dogs. Not sure on cats but probably not a good idea. He is NOT aggressive. He needs to live in a structured environment where he can learn what to expect. We do not believe he could adjust to a home with young kids where there is a lot of commotion. He is a big boy and is probably a Lab/Great Dane mix. He is 2 1/2 years old.

We really thought the third adoption for this beautiful boy was the charm - but no such luck. This is Marley. His reasoning for three returns after his adoption are always the same "he is an escape artist". He is almost 4 years old but still has a ton of energy in typical Boxer fashion. He does fine with other dogs - can not do cats and is fine with kids. Unfortunately this last return is a little different - when he escaped a neighbor tried to grab him and he nipped them. He obviously needs a fenced in yard BUT that doesn't seem to be enough - he needs to find someone who is VERY conscious about opening the door to where he can get into an area with no containment. He isn't a bad dog - just lots of energy and LOVES to run. Little kids in the house won't work with him because of the running out the door when it gets opened. He can not live in Osage, Iowa because of his "bite history". We don't see a mean bone in his body but if he is focused on running and gets grabbed apparently he reacts. He is housebroken. He is neutered and all of his shots are current. If you think you have what it takes to get this boy plenty of exercise and keep him contained please go to our website and complete an adoption application. www.patriotsforpets.com

My name is Raven. I am a pistol and love to play, play and then play some more. I am at PFP looking for a home. I am young with a date of birth of 1/26/18 but I am one smart cookie. I am a typical puppy and I need my own family to teach me all the things that the bigger dogs know. They tell me I am a mix - but not sure I know what that is - I just know I am stinking adorable and have an awesome personality. They tell me I will be spayed this week - not sure what that is but it sounds fun. They have stuck me around here with a few shots - ouch - and they put this thing in me called a micro-chip explaining to me that if I am a bad girl and run away that it will help me get home. I get along with other dogs but I am a little bossy - even with dogs bigger than me. I need an active home with maybe a dog a little older than me to do what they call around here as "put me in my place". They speak in strange terms around here some days. I understand food, treats, love and play - those I have down pat - the rest of it I have to learn - but sure am willing to try if you are. NOTE FROM PFP: If you are interested in adopting Raven her adoption fee is $250.00. She is spayed, current on puppy shots, wormed, current on flea/tick preventative and current on heartworm preventative as well as micro-chipped. We have an adoption application which is located on our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and that needs to be completed and approved in order to adopt Raven.

He is probably a Heeler mix or possibly part GSP. He is amazing with people but gets jealous of young children - so probably best in a home with kids above 10. Still lots of energy so needs to learn some basic manners about not jumping up on people. He is listed as a flight risk because if he gets loose he can run like the wind. He is good with other dogs. He has not been cat tested. His adoption fee is $200.00. If you are interested in adopting hlease go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and complete an adoppplication. This beautiful boy is Scout. He is a 3 year old Boxer mix who is a nice dog. He is good with kids, housebroken, gets along great with adults, kids, dogs and cats. He is an escape artist so a good height fenced in back yard is highly recommended - and he also needs another dog as a playmate and companion. He is here with us as he could not be contained in the home he was in - he kept getting out and ending up in doggie jail. We believe a big part of his constantly escaping is because he was bored and we think a playmate will help that situation. He is neutered, current on his shots and micro-chipped. He just needs his very own family. His adoption fee will be $125.00 - if you are interested in him, please go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and fill out an application.

Ms. Marlene has finished nursing her puppies and she has been spayed and is now looking for her very own home. She is just a little over a year old and is a Siberian Husky. If you fall in love with her looks - please don't stop there - research the breed carefully - they are best owned by experienced owners. She is not an apartment dog - she has way too much energy for that. She does great with humans of all sizes, is great with other dogs an her foster home reported she seemed to be fine with cats but we would highly recommend that be verified with a cat before someone with a cat adopts her as we have some doubts. She is housebroken. She is a very nice young girl who passes all temperament testing with flying colors. She is, however, a talker - a huge talker. So if you are looking for "quiet" that is probably not a word we would use to describe Marlene. If you talk to her she talks back - if you aren't talking to her she talks to you until you do talk to her. So far she hasn't attempted to jump our 6' fences here but she has been looking at the top of them very longingly - almost like she is trying to figure out if she has to climb or jump them. In typical Siberian fashion they are runners - so she will require proper containment in her forever home - with what we would recommend no less than a 6' fence (something other than chain link). She is spayed, current on all of her shots, she is heartworm negative and current on all preventatives and has her micro-chip. Her adoption fee will be $225.00. Poor Finn - this boy has been through the ringer. He came to us after being a victim of being stabbed. He went out to foster and got all better and then came back for adoption to the shelter and didn't get adopted. He then went to another foster home. He was there for a couple of weeks. Then someone was interested in adopting him so we did a two week foster to adopt - after the two weeks they decided to adopt him - that lasted a few days and he got returned. So now, he is back at the shelter starting all over. He has some type of an allergy and is very itchy. We had him on medication and were trying a Venison based food to try and give him some relief. When he got brought back he was out of his pills and out of his food. So we are starting all over again to get his itching under control. 🙂 Apparently he won't go potty on a leash so he will require a fenced in yard - both of his foster homes that we had him in reported he is fully housebroken so we can only assume that his "accidents" in the house after adoption were because of being on a leash to go potty. He is an 8 year old Shih Tzu who is just a cuddly as they come. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. He loves people. His allergy pills runs about $2.00 a day. He doesn't eat a ton so buying a higher end grain free food isn't much of a factor. There has to be someone who can love this boy and give him an amazing life for the remainder of his years.

She has a prey drive and because no one worked with it as a puppy it is now a situation where she can't live with small animals. She is housebroken, knows her basic commands and absolutely loves to play. She has lived with kids and no issues were reported with that. She is full of energy and needs to learn some more basic manners - like not jumping on you. She is walking great on a leash. She is ready to go home now, spayed, current on shots, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. She is just missing a family who doesn't have chicken, ducks or cats (or probably any other small creature). Carly's adoption fee is $200.00. If you are interested in this beautiful girl, please go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and complete an adoption application.

Onyx got adopted last weekend. Everyone knew how terrified she still is of people and strange things. After a few days the person who adopted her realized it was more than she could deal with. Onyx is apparently afraid of grass also so going potty outside was an issue. She is always on concrete or gravel here at the shelter. A scared dog can take weeks, months or years to come around. She had no human interaction for a minimum of a year before coming to us. She is about 3 years old and we were told she is an English Setter mix. She does do excellent with other dogs.

This is Debra. She is a German Shepherd and she is 3 1/2 years old. Historically she was a therapy dog for a Wounded Warrior. After that she ended up in a situation that no dog should endure. We are trying to stay positive so will say nothing more about her last few months. She had lost most of her basic training unless you are firm with her but it is starting to come back with work by us. She has a VERY HIGH prey drive - ducks, geese, chickens, cats, rabbits, other dogs, etc., are all OFF LIMITS FOR HER. She is high energy and will therefore require a large fenced in yard of no less than 5 feet high - preferably 6 feet. She is too rough for small children - so no children under probably about 12. She isn't a very big girl at about 60 lbs. She REALLY would do best in a home that is experienced with German Shepherds - this is not a dog for a novice dog owner. We won't even consider an application that has not had experience with hard to handle breeds. She has not had a good few months and will require time, love, patience and a firm hand (not a cruel one - just firm). If you are interested in her please go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and complete an adoption application.

Cuddles is full of love and energy. She gets along with other dogs great. Loves kids and adults. Might be a little too high energy for really small children. She still needs to learn some basic manners (such as not jumping). If you are sitting down she thinks she belongs on your lap. She absolutely loves to go on long walks and does great on a leash Her name does suit her. She is probably a Pit Bull mix but she is an absolute poster child for what the breed is supposed to be which is sweet and lovable. She is spayed, current on all of her shots, micro-chipped, heartworm negtive and ready for a new home. She came to us out of Houston with the Hurricane Harvey rescue trip we did where we helped clear some of the flooded shelters. If you are interested in her, please go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and fill out an adoption application then come give Cuddles some love. Her adoption fee is $150.00.

Sassey is about 3 years old and she arrived to us from Texas with 5 babies in tow. She was in a shelter and space had to be made for the Hurricane Harvey dogs and therefore she had to find a place to go or she and her babies would have been euthanized. She came to us. She isn't a very big girl at only 35 lbs. Her travel papers say she is a German Shepherd mix (obviously something much smaller than a Shepherd). It will be a couple of weeks before Sassey is done with her babies and ready for her very own home. If you are interested in Sassey please fill out an adoption application which you will find on our website at www.patriotsforpets.com

Hello my name is Mia (husky/Shepard mix)and I am a Hurricane Harvey survivor and a double hip surgery survivor. I have been through a lot but you would never know it. I have been staying with my foster family since hip surgery in February and working on my rehabilitation. I still need some rehab, lots of walks, runs at the dog park and I am just learning to go up and down the stairs. The foster home has 2 dogs one small and one big and I get along with both of them but I don't like them to bother me when I have a chew bone or toy. I am house broken but I am part husky so I do like to be outside and I like to try and escape the front door. I also will need a fenced in yard as I like to chase bunnies and rabbits. I haven't been around children but if they know not to sit on me or pull my tail it may be ok. I am looking for someone that will continue to help me through my rehab as I still have a long way to go. Make sure to go to patriotsforpets.com and fill out the adoption application. Because I am out in a foster home you can meet me only with an approved application and an appointment.

Jersey is about three years old and she arrived to us from Texas with 7 babies in tow. She was in a shelter and space had to be made for the Hurricane Harvey dogs and therefore she had to find a place to go or she and her babies would have been euthanized. She came to us. She isn't a very big girl at only 35 lbs. Her travel papers say she is a Terrier mi but honestly we have no clue what breed she might be. She is done with her babies but unfortunately she is heartworm positive so now must undergo heartworm treatment. We will give her a couple of weeks before we start that treatment. If you are interested in Jersey please fill out an adoption application which you will find on our website at www.patriotsforpets.com but it will be the end of November before she will be able to go home.

Patch is a three year old Boxer Mix. He has tons of energy and not a ton of manners - in typical boxer fashion he jumps with all four off the ground. He LOVES everyone - women, men, children. He gets along great with other dogs - not sure on cats. He is housebroken.

This is Stan. He is one of the Texas Rescue dogs. He is shown as a 5 year old Rottweiler/lab mix. Here is what his foster mom had to say about him: Stan is the biggest of our Texas rescue fosters at about 90 lbs. He's a puller, and very strong, but with a no-pull harness, he walks very well. I think he may have been an outside dog, and don't believe he's housebroken. Does not like other dogs by his food. He gets along well with mild mannered Smokey, but hates busy Bob. At 5 yrs old, he would probably do best as an only dog. He barks alot when he sees us in the yard and wants attention, but does not bark at our neighbors.

Sammy is under 2 years old. He came to us in early January absolutely terrified of humans. He would bite when he was terrified. He has come a LONG LONG way since then. He will now come up to his gate and allow people to gently touch him. He goes in and out without having to be on a leash and forced to go outside. He is now curious about humans and has gotten very good with the regular volunteers here at PFP. He is housebroken. He will require a quiet home with someone who is VERY patient and will just wait for him to be curious enough to seek attention. We know that adoption will set him back a little bit but it is time to start looking for his very own home. He isn't a real big boy - about 35 pounds. His breed is anyone's guess.

This is Ragnar - he was originally with us last year and has been returned. We are not even sure where to start in describing him. We have a 8 page report from his adopters describing him. There are tons and tons of good stuff on him and what a wonderful dog he is - but he is described as having a Jekyll and Hyde personality. He will do great and then all of sudden turn on someone that he knows or was just loving up to. Unfortunately in a home with children, family and friends the changing of personalities did not work. Since we have seen none of the unwanted behavior here we aren't even positive what to look for in an adopter. He is only two years old - has been to trainers who have not seen the issue so can't even begin to advise on additional things to try. The behavior exists and rears it's ugly head when least expected. About 80% of the time he appears good with other dogs and then all of a sudden that goes bad. He was originally shown as a Retriever mix but some of the behavior being described leads us to believe there is some Chow in there. For anyone interested in meeting Ragnar we will require they read the write up on him from the prior owner. Unfortunately with his bite history we will only get one final shot at finding him the right home. We hope one is out there. We "think" a single man or woman who can demonstrate they are in charge, that has very little company and strangers through the home would be best. He will also need to be the only dog. He will also need a fenced in yard to avoid having trouble with neighbor dogs.

Duke is almost 4 years old and is a Boxer mix. His family could no longer keep him due to a family member developing severe allergies. He is a great dog. He is housebroken, good with kids, bonds fairly quickly to his humans. He is neutered, current on his shots, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. He has lots of energy. He gets along great with other dogs. If you are looking for a great dog but don't want to go through all of the puppyhood, Duke might be just the right fit. He is about 55 lbs. Has never lived with a cat. Has lived with kids. In typical Boxer fashion he does a lot of jumping. Consider coming out to meet Duke. Chubba is still very young. His DOB is 2/13/17. He is a lab/dalmation mix. He lived a miserable six months here on this earth before coming to us and our goal to make the rest of his life a good one. He was "dumped" way before he was old enough to care for himself. He ended up in an area that was filled with Porcupine and had the needles all over his body - especially his face. He had to be live trapped to get him. He was absolutely terrified and is still leary of humans but is coming around vey slowly. It took almost two months for his sores to heal and for him to "tolerate" being touched but he is doing better - all physical wounds are healed and he is now coming to the gates looking for attention, he will not in and out voluntarily without being forced. We put him in with a more outgoing dog and that has helped tremendously. He requires a loving and PATIENT home. He is not a "love you to death" type of puppy. You will have to earn that love through lots and lots of patience. He does great with other dogs and is getting more and more curious about all of the attention they get. He would probably be best in a home with another dog to help him finish coming out of his shell (a non-aggressive dog of course). He doesn't have a mean bone in his body but as with any fearful dog - he could bite - so therefore no young children for this beautiful baby. His adoption fee is $100.00. If you think you have the patience and love for this young guy, please go to our website and complete an adoption application you will find that at www.patriotsforpets.com He is neutered, current on his shots, heartworm negative and micro-chipped.

Ms. Bella is a lab mix who is still very much a puppy. Her DOB is 1/14/17.. She come to the shelter to find a new home when she got a UTI and by day three the medication wasn't working so she ended up here with us. We did the full round of medication on her and now no problems and she is looking for a forever home. She is a sweet girl with lots of energy. She gets along great with other dogs. She loves kids. She seems to ignore our kennel cat when she is loose and comes across the cat. She is a little shy when she first meets someone but warms up quickly. If you are interested in adopting Bella, please go to our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and complete an adoption application. She is available on our foster to adopt program.
