Adoption - Important Information

Often times there is more than one person interested in a particular animal. When that occurs people are welcome to submit their applications for a dog and we can go through the approval process but no pet will be “held” until you can come and visit them. Too often someone e-mails or phones and wants a pet but can’t come for several days to visit and in the interim an individual comes in and meets the pet, completes an application and is approved. The person who came in to meet the pet and is approved is whom the dog will be adopted to if it is a good match. Unfortunately, too often, we get phone calls early in the week to “hold” onto a pet until the weekend and then the people don’t show up and we have already listed the pet as unavailable or turned down other inquiries. This is unfair to the pet because then they don’t have a forever home until the adoption is complete. We do our best to keep our Facebook updated as a animal is adopted so if you can’t come and meet the pet shortly after your inquiry it is recommended you check to make sure the animal is still available before you travel a far distance. It is about finding the right home for the right pet and until you have met the animal and know that both yourself and the animal are comfortable with each other we can not “hold” an animal. Thank you for your understanding.

“WE DO NOT ADOPT OUTDOOR ONLY DOGS”

All other animals in the home need to be spayed/neutered in order to adopt.

Puppy Adoptions:  When there is a litter of puppies available for adoption with 7 or more puppies – we will accept “reservations” for a puppy out of that litter.  Your application must be submitted and you must have a tentative approval.  A deposit can be placed on a selection choice out of that litter and a date will be set for you to select your puppy when it is old enough to have visitors.  If a puppy out of that litter does not steal your heart or work with your family, a credit of your deposit will be given toward another available animal.  If you fail to show up on the date specified by the shelter for puppy selection the deposit will be forfeited.

With litters of 6 or less puppies – we will do “pre-adoptions” on those puppies.  It will have to be accomplished via pictures (possibly videos if available) and the descriptions on the pups.  We will require full payment of the adoption fee at the time the puppy is “pre-adopted”.  When it is time to meet, and interact with your puppy, if you change your mind on that puppy, a credit will be issued of your adoption fees.  If you do not show up to pick-up your puppy on the date set, the adoption fees will be forfeited.

If upon meeting of our animals we do not feel it is a good match with the puppy, we reserve the right to refuse the adoption and issue a refund of the deposit or pre-adoption fees paid.

If you have another dog(s) we will require a meet and greet between your animal(s) and the new addition to the family.  The meet and greet will require for you to bring complete vet records of the animals in your home, for the safety of the animals in the the shelter if you do not bring the records the meet and greet will not take place. The meet and greet will need to be accomplished on the day of the selection or pick-up of the puppy.  If for some reason the meet and greet between the animals does not work out and the puppy can not be taken home with you, a refund for your deposit or adoption fees will be issued.

We do not allow visitation with puppies that are under 8 weeks of age – no exceptions – it is for the safety of the puppies.
